01Haemil Back

02Haemil Back

Side buttons that go Back and Forward.

On a Mac, Safari and Finder ignore your mouse's side buttons. Haemil Back catches them and sends ⌘[ and ⌘] instead. It sits quietly in the menu bar.

macOS 13+ · Apple Silicon · Intel · Notarized by Apple
  • Rear side button⌘[Back
  • Front side button⌘]Forward
Works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Finder and other apps that use ⌘[ and ⌘]

02Setup

Three steps and you're done.

  1. 01

    Download and move

Open HaemilBack.dmg, drag Haemil Back to Applications and open it.

  2. 02

    Allow Accessibility

When asked, turn on Haemil Back in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility. It restarts itself once allowed.

  3. 03

    Then it just runs

It adds itself to Login Items, so it starts with your Mac. Check its status or quit from the menu bar icon.

03Troubleshooting

Most mice just work.

  1. 01

    No per-model setup

Haemil Back listens for the standard macOS mouse buttons 3 and 4, which most side buttons send.

  2. 02

    Vendor software

If Logi Options+, Razer Synapse or similar has remapped the side buttons, set them back to default there.

  3. 03

    Check the log

Still nothing? Open ~/Library/Logs/HaemilBack.log. If your mouse sends a different button number, it shows up there. Tell us in a GitHub issue.
